One of the coolest gifts you can give someone is one most people don't even think of: a song, written expressly for them.

This isn't slack work, either. Exhibit A of what I've done on commission is "A Dragon's Lullaby". The base price for a single song is $349. Writing it will take some time -- even if I nail the idea and write the initial lyrics within minutes, we'll likely interact for some fine-tuning (e-mail, although phone contact is also possible) -- but it should be reasonably timely, within six weeks or so and usually within a month. (Rush jobs are doable; contact me for particulars.) I retain the rights the song, and may use it how I see fit (although you will always receive credit for the idea).
If you're paying for a song, especially as a gift, you want it to be good. I don't want to take your money for hack work -- my pride, skill, and reputation are on the line. And you want a song that touches your heart, makes you laugh, makes you cry, makes things special -- a song you'll want to listen to and sing again and again.
